Edumacation: CFB Week 7/NFL Week 6
Five Things We Learned About College Football
1. The Heisman race is a mess: Tony Pike is hurt. Tebow and McCoy looked mortal. Bradford is hurt. Suh's Nebraska D got creamed. The new name to watch? Mark Ingram, RB from Alabama.
2. We may see UF/Bama I and II: If Florida and Alabama play in the SEC title game -- widely expected -- and that game is excellent, well, we may just see that as the BCS title game too (especially if Texas loses somewhere -- see Point 3). Could you argue there's a better title game than that?
3. The most important game remaining in October is Texas at Oklahoma State: Texas is going to trip. Watch. Last year, when did they trip? Halloween weekend, vs. an explosive offense (Texas Tech) on the road -- and a team with a controversial WR to boot. Just saying.
4. Jim Tressel is running out of steam: He might not even win the Big Ten title this season. What if he were to end the season losing to PSU, Iowa and Michigan in three straight weeks in a conference generally regarded as "down?" Fail.
5. Boise State. So sad: They'll run the table -- and play in the Sugar Bowl.
Five Things We Learned About The NFL
1. The presumptive NFC Championship game is now Vikings at Saints or vice versa: This statement means nothing and will change several times in the next month.
2. The presumptive AFC Championship game of Steelers vs. Patriots can now be assumed again: See above.
3. Football in Missouri is awful: Sure, the Chiefs won -- because Jim Zorn mis-managed his QB card -- but honestly, 1-11 combined record for the pro teams in that state? Ugh.
4. Drew Brees is good and his receivers are fast: That game was won by the Saints on protection, however. If the Giants crash the pocket like they did in the Pats' Super Bowl, the result is much different. Credit the O-line.
5. The Falcons are better than ya think: See what was said in No. 1? The Birds are a team that can change it all.
