NFL Week 7 Action
The column was suspended last week because of a long trip to the beautiful and not at all depressing hub of industry and culture Cleveland, Ohio. I was given a tour of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame by director Terry Stewart, which was absolutely phenomenal. Being candid, this was my first trip to Cleveland and I had heard nothing but shots about the weather and the state of the city. This was not at all what I found (although the weather was bleak). Cleveland seems poised for a renaissance, they have all the makings of a great city; a well situated downtown area, some very appealing suburbs outside of the limits, arguably the top hospital in the country and all three major sports teams in close proximity to each other.
Honestly, I was struck by the level of commitment the Clevelanders have to their team. Everyone I spoke to could fluently and intelligently talk about the Cleveland teams. Though none have lost a sense of humor about how dismal their teams are. Honestly though, is there any other way to handle it?
They are the complete foil to fickle New Yorkers who take their teams for granted. I was astonished about how many people gave up on the Giants this week. Let's take a cue from C-town and get on board, win or lose. You Jerks. On that note, onto the picks! (Despite this, I will not be picking the Browns.)
Minnesota Vikings @ Pittsburgh Steelers ( Sunday, October 25 - 1:00 pm) -
I think the Steelers have a shot. If not, Favre goes into Lambeau next week without a loss on him yet. I think the real test for the man is how he'll play down the stretch. I am voting for self-destruct.
Take a Shot - Whenever you realize that the most dangerous man on the field is actually Jeff Reed.
Where to Watch - SHIP OF FOOLS – 1590 2nd Ave
Atlanta Falcons @ Dallas Cowboys (Sunday, October 25 - 4:15 pm) -
The Falcons have been flip flopping all year on whether they are good or not. But they only have one loss, against the Patriots who I can figure out even less. The Cowboys have been soft all year, just in time for their opulent new stadium.
Take a Shot - Whenever you see someone at the bar who is from either of these southern towns, and they probably shouldn't be in public.
Where to Watch - WHISTLIN DIXIE’S- 714 w 11th ave
New Orleans Saints @ Miami Dolphins (Sunday, October 25 - 4:15 pm) -
I think this game will be closer than most people are assuming. The Wildcat hasn't been figured out yet, apart from Brown and Williams learning how to run it even better. But the Saints are just too good.
Take a Shot - Whenever you aren't sure who is taking the snap for the Dolphins.
Where to Watch - BAR NONE – 98 3rd Ave
