The Best NYC Baseball Bars for Opening Day

The Best NYC Baseball Bars for Opening Day

Nothing heralds the coming of spring like Opening day. While some unfortunate Northwesterners are still getting snowed on, global warming won't stop America!

The first pitch will go down at 1 pm (work, schmerk) with the Tigers taking on the Yankees in the Bronx. Still many unanswered questions from most teams, but preliminary polls have the Red Sox and Phillies on top of their respective leagues. However, most teams won't take kindly to that. Tell that to the Royals. Actually, don't. They don't need any more bad news.

Here are the best spots to watch the Bronx Bombers -

Foley's  - While the NY Post isn't known for its accuracy, they did hit the nail on the head when they named Foley's the best baseball bar in New York. With the walls covered in memorabilia, an ample menu and the oldest urinals in New York (taken from the Waldorf Astoria), Foley's takes baseball seriously and it will undoubtedly be packed on Sunday.

Dorrian's Red Hand - This restaurant and bar is truly an institution, this year it celebrates its 50th year on the upper east side. The spot used to be a hangout for many Yankees in the off-season, before they were banned by management following a few incidents that would make Dock Ellis blush.  While the crowd leans toward Polo and Sperry, there is no reason you can't enjoy a game and a few drinks in this landmark bar.

The best bars for the Detroit faithful -

Lucky Jack's - Lucky Jack's is a lower east side gem with a proclivity for Detroit. The long copper bar is classic and the bartenders couldn't be sweeter.

Blondie's West - Blondie's is a great general baseball bar, but they pull a substantial Tigers crowd. And the wings are outstanding.

For general baseball watching we also recommend SNAP and Lansdowne Road.  We'll be back throughout the season with updates on where to watch key match-ups, but until then, drink up.
