The Edumacation: Weekend of 10/24-10/25
Five College Football Observations -- Saturday, October 24, 2009
1. Honestly, Tebow shouldn't win the Heisman: He may well win it. He's the leader of an undefeated team and basically willed them to win an Arkansas game (two weeks ago) they seemed sure to lose. Here's the thing, though: his numbers are utterly pedestrian. Against an average Mississippi State team, he had two picks returned for touchdowns. What the deuce?
2. USC's defense shouldn't be vaunted: Oregon State gashed them -- yes, gashed -- for 500 yards, and on the road, no less.
3. Is Clemson getting good? Nice win on the road at Miami in OT.
4. Terrence Cody is underrated: This dude started as a message board phenom. Now he's blocking kicks to secure undefeated records. It's a big year for DTs -- Suh, him, McCoy on Oklahoma, etc.
5. Michigan needs another year: Thought that PSU game would be competitive. Um. Thought wrong.
Five NFL Observations -- Sunday, October 25, 2009
1. If you're a Vikings fan, worry a bit: The Favre at the end of that Steelers game looked a little like the Favre who played for the Jets at the end of last season.
2. The gap between "great" and "awful" is really wide: Seven teams lost by more than two touchdowns. Ugh.
3. Larry Johnson is a punk: How did Jay-Z ever associate his brand with this fellow?
4. The Giants' secondary is porous: One would have to call that "a concern."
5. Here we go now (again): Steelers and Pats... getting hot... both 5-2.... well, well, well....
