Cameron’s Week 2 NFL Picks
This week we are premiering a new segment, a rundown my weekly picks. I would have started it last Sunday if I wasn’t stricken with football anxiety disorder (symptoms - watching preseason, 24 football coverage, reading Peter King archives). Well, better late than never, right?
1pm - Houston @ Tennessee
Pick - Tennessee
The Titans almost crashed the Steelers Superbowl party (after party, I suppose) in the NFL kickoff. If the train wreck of a performance by the Black Eyed Peas couldn’t derail them, don’t expect the Texans to.
1pm - New Orleans @ Philadelphia
Pick - New Orleans
At this point, I would bet the farm on Brees. He is a model of consistency. Now I just need to acquire a farm somehow. I’m taking the Saints on the division, hands down.
1pm - Arizona @ Jacksonville
Pick - Jacksonville
Jacksonville is carried on the stout shoulders of Maurice Jones-Drew, a threat to run or receive. Not to mention the game starts at 10 am Arizona time.
1pm - Oakland @ Kansas City
Pick - Who Cares?
Really, who cares? (Oakland)
1pm - Cincinnati @ Green Bay
Pick - Green Bay
Aaron Rodgers needs to step up if this team wants to go deep, but don’t expect the Bengals to ruin the Packer party. Here’s to hoping Aaron is 100% against the Vikings.
1 pm - Minnesota @ Detroit
Pick - Minnesota
The money line is ridiculous, but this is pretty much free cash.
1 pm - St. Louis @ Washington
Pick - Washington
Rams could theoretically muster some strength and make a run at this one, but in the end my money goes on the Redskins. St. Louis is not ready to break out yet.
1 pm - New England @ New York Jets
Pick - Jets
My upset pick this week. Sanchez and the strong D are a whole different squad than the Bills, who gave the Pats so much trouble. The Jets want it so bad they can taste it, while Brady just doesn’t want to get hit.
1 pm - Carolina @ Atlanta
Pick - Carolina
Jake Delhomme can’t have 3 apocalyptic games in a row, right?
4:05 pm - Tampa Bay @ Buffalo
Pick - Bills
This is a good game for the Bills coming off a momentum-killing loss. They could trample on the Bucs, and maybe get it in gear for the rest of the season, including another late season shot at New England.
4:05 pm - Seattle @ San Francisco
Pick - 49ers
The 49ers are swung if only on the home field advantage. This is one game I will certainly not watch.
4:15 pm - Baltimore @ San Diego
Pick - Chargers
Unlike most, I don’t believe that LT coming back is going to be essential to the Chargers success. Darren Sproles has enough talent to carry this running game, as long as Rivers steps up and hits his targets.
4:15 pm - Pittsburgh @ Chicago
Pick - Pittsburgh
Forte will be huge, but Cutler is going to have to put up a better performance to impress me. The defense lost a key element, and Big Ben is great at exploiting the smallest flaws.
4:15 pm - Cleveland @ Denver
Pick - Broncos
Momentum from a dumb luck play, like the one that Stokely had carries over. I think Quinn can lead the Brown’s to 8 wins; this won’t be one of them.
8:20 pm - New York Giants @ Dallas
Pick - Giants
The NFL premiere of Cowboy’s Stadium will undoubtedly be spoiled by the Giants. The G-men are tough and there is no reason to think that they can’t roll over a Cowboys team that is in flux.
8:30 pm - Indianapolis @ Miami
Pick - Indianapolis
Miami’s record is going to land smack in the middle of their 2007 and 2008 records. Peyton superbly hides the fact that the Colts lack both a RB and receivers.
So sit back, and check out the game at a Where We Watch recommended watering hole. See you Sunday.
