What We’re Thankful For

Thanksgiving is a time for giving thanks and reflecting on the past year. And punching d-bags you went to HS with in the face when you see him at the local. (That’s another story, with apologies to the recent Jimmy Clausen events.) The Where We Watch team wanted to share what we’re thankful for this year—with limited, if pointed, individual biases on display.

I’m thankful that every year I’ve been alive, the Florida State Seminoles have been to a bowl game. Yes, this one was a close call.

The Seminoles Carrying Micky Andrews off the field in his last home game.

I’m thankful that the 2009 Wimbledon Final was as epic as the 2008 one.

I’m thankful that Usain Bolt made track and field relevant again.

Ramya

I’m thankful for Miami Hurricanes who bring swagger back to the U all weekend long. (Last minute Reggie Wayne TD vs the Pats? sick.)

I’m thankful for girls who run with—and BEAT—the big boys.

I’m thankful for Jimmie Johnson, who has left everyone in the rearview mirror and makes four left turns at 160+ mph look easy.

Paige

I’m thankful the Mets have managed to increase their fan base and feed their farm system in a way that Steinbrenner can’t replicate.

I’m thankful that Rio 2016 happened, with a little help from Tokyo. Yes, that man is dressed as a clown, it seems.

I’m thankful that it’s time for Wolverine hoops after that football season. Manny Harris > Tate Forcier. Until late August, at least.

I’m thankful Mark Sanchez still seems endearing, even within a 1-6 slide following a 4-0 start. (Are you listening, Rich Rod?)

Ted

I’m thankful that both Chris Johnson AND Gus Johnson exist. GETTING… AWAY… FROM .... THE .... COPS ... SPEED.

I’m thankful this Charlie Weis experiment is almost over.

I’m thankful A-Rod finally found someone with a penchant to flop as hard as he does.

Cameron

I am not thankful that 2 of 3 things that Ted is thankful for are thinly veiled jabs at my preferred organizations (although I am also happy that the Charlie Weis era is drawing to a close.)

I am thankful that the Yankees bought a World Series title.  Does that taint it for me at all?  No, it does not.

I am thankful for the Thanksgiving NFL schedule.  The Lions and Raiders have assured I don’t have to worry about missing a good game until 8:20.

Finally, I am truly thankful for all the games, matches, races and storylines that made 2009 another great year in sports.  Especially this one.
