UFC 119 emanates -- great word to use if you want to confuse people, as an aside -- from Conseco Fieldhouse on Saturday, September 25th. It'll be the first-ever UFC event held in the state of Indiana; on the surface, that makes a great deal of sense, seeing as most people associate the state with stalks of corn and late-1990s Reggie Miller. Neither of those things involve sweaty men rolling on top of each other and punching (OK, maybe Reggie Miller does a little bit).
The main event of the card is Frank Mir vs. Mirko Cro Cop (amazing name). Mir should win; Mirko is 27-7-2, which is a good record, but not an outstanding one. Mir is 18-5, but he's ranked as the No. 6 heavyweight in the world. The cool thing to bring up at a bar about this fight is: Mirko's left high kicks are amazing (they've knocked out several opponents), so much so that he says of his style, "Right leg kick? Hospital. Left leg kick? Cemetery."
Mark Hunt, who used to be in PRIDE (anyone else think it's weird that a fighting organization is called 'PRIDE?') makes his UFC debut on the undercard; Hunt is notable because he's beaten Mirko and Wanderlei Silva.
A nice side battle at Conseco will be Sean Sherk -- 33-4 and a former Light Heavyweight champ -- against Evan Dunham, who is 11-0 so far in UFC. Side note to this fight (that admittedly has little to do with this fight): I once worked with a kid named Evan Dunham. Most notable thing about that version? He regularly struggled to put iPod headphones in correctly, i.e. without tangling them or hitting some part of his face with them. I don't think that kid would do too well in UFC.
