Where to Watch the Australian Open

It’s no big surprise that the Australian Open final will more than likely pit Rafael Nadal against Roger Federer. Some fans will dismiss this as business as usual, but as their story goes on, the matches seem to get more and more interesting. If it comes to fruition, this year will not be an exception.

Nadal will be going for a consecutive Grand Slam, the first since Rod Laver in 1969. And while the Grand Slam isn't through one season (and Laver won't let anyone forget it), the accomplishment would be monumental. Federer has always played well in Melbourne though, taking 4 of the last 7 tournaments including last year's, cutting off Nadal's single season Grand Slam before it even started.

While Nadal is peaking, Federer seems to be on a slight decline, and last year looked like a changing of the guard. However, the Swiss phenom ended last season with a show of strength and he has dominated Down Under. Both men want this title; Federer to prove he is not becoming inferior and Nadal to show that he is undisputedly the top player in the world. And so this begs the question (and the cliche) – who wants it more?

Where should you catch this epic rivalry? Eight Mile Creek's upstairs dining area oozes class, but when you descend to the bar you may as well have gone to the Outback. The televisions are few but expertly placed, the beer selection is excellent (Coopers!) and the classic bar menu is served late into the night. If you aren't planning on a trip to the Lower East Side, The Australian is a newcomer to the Aussie scene. Good food, 10 beers on tap and a location that is two blocks from Bryant Park have only helped this watering hole.
