Where to Watch the IPL Twenty20 Cricket Final in NYC

Admittedly, I follow some unusual sports (see here and here). So when I told my friends about the Indian Premier League, a top-tier league in India playing Twenty20 cricket, they were a bit suspect. However after watching one match, they were completely sold. Twenty20 cricket as we say is "not your father's cricket."

The consolation game is on Saturday at 10:30am between the Deccan Chargers and the Bangalore Royal Challengers

The championship is on Sunday at 10:30am between the Mumbai Indians (best. name. ever.) and the Chennai Super Kings (Sponsored by not one, but two Indian Cement companies).

Not sure who to root for? Here's a couple storylines to help you out...

  1. The Mumbai Indians dominated all season, leading the standings from start to finish. Anything short of winning it all would be a huge disappointment. However, their star player, Sachin Tendulkar (The MJ of Cricket) is questionable with a hand injury. Without him they go from being the 90s-era Bulls to 90s-era Rockets.
  2. The Deccan Chargers had a Mets-ian collapse during their semi-final against the Super Kings. Will they be able to recover to be Bangalore?
  3. If you want one reason to root for the Chennai Super Kings, watch this:
  4. Bangalore Royal Challengers face off against Deccan in a rematch of last year's championship. Can Bangalore get revenge for their six run loss last year? Beyond pride, a berth to this year's Champions League (Cricket's equivalent to Soccer's... well... Champions League) is on the line.

If you can't make it to a bar to watch the game, Youtube has agreed to live-stream the games: http://www.youtube.com/ipl. Join us here as we live-blog the games.
