2009 British Open Championships

The Where We Watch team wholeheartedly admits we have not always been big golf fans. We didn't really get it. But as with so many sporting affections we now passionately support, we picked a really good day to start watching.

It was the final day of the 2007 Open at Carnoustie and Spanish heartthrob Sergio Garcia had been on the top of the leaderboard convincingly through three rounds. On day four, Pádraig Harrington tiptoed up the leaderboard and, because of Sergio's +1 fourth round, forced the best Sunday playoff since the Giants upset the Pats. Paddy pulled a one stroke win over Sergio, became the first Irishman to win the Open in 60 years and defended his Open title the following year. Not surprising for the only guy who has been partnered with Tiger five or more times and outscored him. Harrington's 68.83 average edges out Tiger's 69.50 - so you know he's for real.

This year's Open Championship starts on July 16th at Turnberry. Given the awesome finish at Bethpage last month, we'll be watching. Will you?
